Dads on Duty Ministry

I’m Lead Pastor at Mt. Zion Church in Oakwood Village, right out of Cleveland Ohio and I want to announce  our new school program:  Dads on Duty (DOD) ministry.

These are men from the churches and community who set aside a few hours to attend elementary, middle and high schools in the area to encourage kids while attending school.

They are identifiable in their DOD shirts and have been finger printed by the schools to assure they are all maintaining integrity within the school’s protocol.

Dads on Duty are fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other father-figures who volunteer at our schools.  Our Director Bill Reid told me the other day, “We are excited about fathers and father-figures getting involved in the schools.”

These are men who welcome students during student arrivals at Crosswalk Duty. They assist with traffic flow when asked, watch the school entrances and hallways, help with PTA functions (attend Fall & Spring sports games), mentor students and assist with any assigned activities where kids actively engage.

The benefits of being a Dad On Duty member are incalculable with time spent with our community children.  Deacon Lowell Watkins, just was saying “When you have Dads on Duty in the schools it gives children a sense of not only security, but safety.  Also, it plays a supporting role to teachers and faculty, while positively impacting children’s performance, self-esteem and social behavior to create amazing school students.”
